The Yew Tree Reserves are important for the study of the history of flora and vegetation of Ukraine.
Due to the fact that the yew belongs to an endangered species, foresters and botanists are trying not only to preserve its natural properties, but also increase its cultivation in its native enviroment. Moreover, that it is possible to use as shade tolerant yew bushes in the dark and mountainous beech forests, where the lack of sufficient coverage by other species means it grows poorly.
The Yew can be successfully grown as a seed and vegetatively. For abundant seedlings its recommended that autumn sowing of fresh seeds without stratification in the soft huums-rich deciduous soil. Seedlings will emerge in the spring of the next year.
Along with seed multiplication it can be cultivated by green yew cuttings, grafts and layering. In particular, such methods can propagate decorative shapes of yew.
Among other coniferous trees yew is most gas-resistant, it is the least damaged by smoke carcinogens and other industrial enterprises.
Thanks to a nice dark green color of the needles and the beautiful black seeds(both poisenous) with red (eddible) berrys, it also has highly decorative qualities.
So, the Yew should make more use in landscaping our cities and towns, industrial areas and gardens homes.
Foresters should actively establish the yew forests in the Carpathians, as a shade-tolerant shrub, enriching the good soil and keeps it constant freshness.
Such activities will help preserve and multiply the yew - this endangered representative of the ancient Tertiary flora.
